PAX-it Tips

How to keep your PAX-it system running smoothly....

CD-ROM Drives
This page contains information on using your CD-ROM drive in PAX-it.

Setting up Network Drives
This page will provide you with information on how to setup a network drive to store your PAX-it images.

100X Printing
This page will provide you with information on how to capture an image via an analog camera or a digital camera and print to a digital printer and have the printout actually be 100x.

NEW CARTRIDGE
A removable drive such as an Iomega Zip, Jaz or Bernoulli drive, can be used with PAX-it.  Each cartridge contains its own database.   To speed up database routines, PAX-it stores the database for each cartridge in memory (RAM). Warning!! If you have an image open (displayed) from one cartridge, and then you change cartridges, you will get unpredictable and damaging results when you attempt to change the database information or edit the video text for that image.
Here is how to avoid a problem: When you wish to insert a new cartridge, select IMAGES then NEW CARTRIDGE.  This will insure that the database is properly closed and you have no images left open from the previous cartridge.

KEEP YOUR HARD DRIVE AND OTHER STORAGE MEDIA CLEAN
Run scandisk frequently and defragment your media often. Often problems can occur if your computer is not shut down properly, running these utilities often can prevent disaster. Also, make sure that you have enough disk space. Do not let your hard drive get down below 30 Megs of hard disk space. Windows needs a lot of disk space to operate. You should also clean your TEMP directory often and remove any .TMP files.

YOU CAN ADD OR CHANGE THE SOUNDS IN PAX-it
You can edit your PAXIT.INI file so the system will play different sounds when you perform some operations. Use the following headings and insert the name of each wave file:
[Sounds]
cabopen = {wavefile}
folderopen = {wavefile}
Save = {wavefile}
Freeze = {wavefile}
GoLive = {wavefile}

[StartUp]
Sound_20 = {wavefile}

BACK UP YOUR DATABASE OFTEN
You will want to regularly backup your database. Select DATABASE then UTILITIES then BACKUP DATABASE. Using your Explorer of File Manager you may want to copy the resulting .MDB file to a floppy disk or another storage media. This WILL NOT backup your images, but it will back up your database.
